4. Review job announcement
Read the entire job announcement to make sure you’re eligible and meet the requirements; each job has its own set of requirements, and your application must demonstrate how you meet them. For more information, read the Clarification from the Agency section or the Who may apply section.
5. Prepare your application in USAJOBS
We’ll walk you through a five-step process in which you’ll upload your resume and documents and review, edit, and delete your information. Applying to some jobs may take longer than applying to others because some agencies and jobs require more information.
7. Agency reviews application
After the job announcement closes, the hiring agency will begin reviewing applications and categorize qualified applicants into the following categories:. After the hiring agency has reviewed all applications, they will send the highest qualified applicants to the hiring official.
Hiring officials can interview applicants using a panel or video phone, in-person or over the phone, and there may be more than one interview round for each individual applicant, depending on agency policy.

If the hiring agency does not fill the position, the job status will change to Job canceled; for those who are not selected, the role will be listed as Hiring complete.

For jobs that require a higher-level clearance, such as intelligence or law enforcement, the agency may require additional security checks.

The hiring agency will contact the candidate(s) directly to set up a start date for them to apply for the position of Director of Public Safety and Criminal Justice Officer after the hiring agency successfully completes a background investigation and any additional security checks.
