An API acts like a doorway to your server and database that those with an API key (or a paid subscription) can use to access whatever assets you choose to reveal. A key could give a user read access, write access, or both—it’s up to you. APIs let applications (and devices) seamlessly connect and communicate.

- Go to the API Console.
- From the projects list, select a project or create a new one.
- If the APIs & services page isn’t already open, open the left side menu and select APIs & services.
- On the left, choose Credentials.
- Click Create credentials and then select API key.
