Mark works at a digital marketing firm in Colchester, Essex, as a Web Developer. He’s a passionate music aficionado who creates, records, and produces his own music in addition to attending shows. He also keeps a blog about his profession and has a YouTube channel where he reviews technology.
Why did you learn to code?
Youth Work is a mobile app that assists youth workers and mentors in having meaningful talks with children and adolescents.
How has your life changed since learning to code?
For the first time in his life, he is working 9-5(ish) as a web developer, rather than evenings and weekends. He says he enjoys being a part of a great team and looks forward to going to work every day. But he’s not ready to give up his passion for his work just yet!
What does a typical day as a web developer look like for you?
He discusses working with Wordress, Magento 2, and the difficulties of creating custom plugins. “I appreciate that there’s always something new to learn,” he says.
How did you learn coding?
His first effort at learning to code was through the London App Brewery’s comprehensive iOS programming course on Udemy. He believes coding was tough, but he had a lot of fun with interesting videos and fun tasks.
What was the interview process like for your web developer job?
I applied for a lot of IT jobs when I was young, but I was ignored by some and received generic rejections from others. I was fortunate enough to have done some freelance work and hence had some client-based work as well as hobby projects to show off.
Do you have tips for people who want to learn to code without doing a degree?
To learn to code, you don’t need a degree or an expensive bootcamp. On YouTube and Udemy, there’s a lot of wonderful free content that can be picked up for less than £15 when they have a sale. Attempt to obtain some real-world experience by working on projects for others.
What are your career goals for the future?
